iPad 3 Specs [Roundup]

Not officially announced anything about Apple’s iPad 3, but there is lots of rumors, leaks and guesses circulating on the Web about this next-generation tablet.

Putting some effort I have tried here to compile specs of iPad 3 from those rumors, leaks and guesses.

Thinner iPad 3:

This is confirmed unofficially from sources at accessory manufacturer. It is said that the iPad 3 will be thinner than the existing iPad 2.

Moreover, it is Apple’s style to make devices thinner in its each launches.

Retina Display:

It is widely rumored that the backlighting of iPad 3 would be enhanced with Retina display. Well, there is a contradictory theory too that if the Retina display hardware is mounted on it for extra light-emitting, the tablet will become thicker than iPad 2. Let’s wait and watch what exactly comes out. It is to take note that iPad 2 is the thinnest iOS device so far in Apple’s portfolio.

IGZO Display:

Rumors and leaks suggest that Apple may use IGZO display panels in iPad 3. The main benefit of this display is its lower cost and increased aperture ratio for enhanced light transmittance. Of course it will also provide higher resolution. Latest update floats that Sharp has been kicked out of the supply chain for iPad 3, and this is the only company making the IGZO display panels. Need to wait and watch again.

A6 processor:

Initially the iPad 3 may lack the A6 processor chip but it will reach in later part of 2012. The current A5 processor is manufactured by Samsung and it supplies the chip for iPad 2.

iPad 3 battery:

The battery of iPad 3 would be far more efficient than iPad 2 to support proper life with brighter and crisper Retina display.

Apart from all these rumors, guesses and leaks about iPad 3, it is also suggested that the iDevice would be a 9.7-inch tablet giving a resolution of 2048 x 1536. Well, it is too early to comment what exactly will be the iPad 3.

The release time of iPad 3 is rumored to be March 2012.
